History: Toris was born in a small farming village in Lithuania where he worked tirelessly to support his poor sick mother. With the added costs of medical bills, it became difficult for his father to support them alone. So Toris took a job as a farm hand for a local farmer to help his father take care of his mother.
But the bills kept becoming more and more costly, and before long Toris and his father were unable to pay for the treatment his mother needed. With hopes of making more money, Toris decided to leave the country and set sail for America with dreams of making enough to support the ever-rising costs.
Toris managed to secure a job with in the first few weeks of arriving in America at a local florist shop and made good enough wages for him to find a decent place in an apartment.
Nearly eight months later, his mother took a turn for the better and no longer needed the income from her son. Toris had the option of returning home now, but he had grown quite fond of this nation. He decided to remain in America and pursue an education in law enforcement. Seeing all the shady business that went down in the neighborhoods around his home got him interested in it.
He made it nearly two years in before he got the fateful call that would turn his life upside down and rip his dream away. His mother took a turn for the worse when her sickness resurfaced in full force. She needed immediate treatment…but the procedure cost far too much for either him or his father.
Horribly desperate by now, Toris made the decision that would change his life. He sought out a member of one of the local mafia groups and pleaded for the cash. He had nothing to bargain with, only his life and skills. Interest was shown when he mentioned his choice profession, and that he was willing to throw it away to save his mother’s life. Indeed, his skills would be useful for covering up their crimes…
The deal was made. In exchange for the life saving money, Toris was now an official member of the Russian mafia and so long as he worked for them, they would keep shelling out the cash to pay for her treatments. However, it would keep plunging him farther and farther into their debt…
He could never run. They would surely seek out his family and exact revenge. He was stuck at their mercy…and he came to realize with time that he had made a grave mistake choosing this path.
Feeling guilty and not wishing to be questioned by his neighbors as to why he dropped out of school, he would make the move to a new apartment complex closer to his job. Blue creek apartments were certainly not in the best of shape, but all the Lithuanian boy needed to survive. The rent was reasonable, and it allowed him to begin saving up money to make feeble attempts at trying to pay back his debts.
Sample/Character Introduction: The day time was like a wonderful dream. Toris felt like a normal person. A free and normal person who was not chained down to anybody but himself.
He would wake up and get ready for work, smile and wave to his neighbors like he had not a care in the world, before starting the walk to the florist shop.
This job he loved. It was always warm and sunny inside, with an inviting aroma always lingering in the air. Even the people who came in day after day had happy smiles when they would look at the flowers. The happy atmosphere also infected Toris, who was always happy to be here.
A month ago however, he would have pictured himself in a very different job. One that would have left him feeling much more accomplished at the end of the day. But things never went as planned and instead, Toris found his path going the opposite way of what he intended. Crime.
That happy smile would falter at the thought, the flower arrangement in front of him going forgotten for the moment in his self-pity. He regretted it. He made a hasty and foolish decision and now, he was still here…still in this little flower shop, doing the same job he had been doing since he arrived in America. This was his day job. But where he used to attend school at night, was now replaced with the dark dealings of the underground.
The nighttime turned into a nightmare.
Toris would heave a heavy sigh before working on the flower arrangement once more. This one was for a wedding, a small and beautiful wedding. But they received requests for all sorts of things. Birthdays and get well presents. Dates and funerals. Yes, plenty of funerals. More than he cared to acknowledge. It just reminded him of his new shady secret life he was living…
Giving another depressed sigh, he tried to push the thoughts away before the depression over took him and he got his normal stomach cramps. That was the last thing he needed at this very moment, for it was nearly closing time and he had been told to show up tonight for a ‘job.’
Chills ravaged him as he recalled one of his war torn superiors giving him the orders. Whatever job this was, it certainly was not going to be a pretty sight.
Once the arrangement was finished, Toris would set it back in the refrigerator to keep it fresh and began to close up shop. All the while he prepared himself mentally for the long night that awaited him.
“Good night boss!” He would call back to his employer, pulling his jacket on as he made his way out the door.
He had come to believe that the sound of the bells ringing as the door closed behind him signified the start of his ‘secret’ second life.
((Ah! I finished! HOORAY!! Sorry that this took so long, and I do hope that this is all right… Also I<3Hetalia!))
